Free Seedlings Programme
We grow and distribute Baobab (Mabuyu) and Tamarind (Kawawasha) seedlings free of charge to Zambian communities — farmers, households, schools, churches, and organisations.
How It Works
Any Zambian individual, farmer, household, school, church, or community group may request up to 100 seedlings completely free of charge. We cover growing costs, and you commit to planting and caring for the seedlings.
For quantities above 100, a fee of $1 per seedling (or ZMW equivalent) applies for each seedling beyond the first 100. Example: 150 seedlings = 100 free + $50 for the extra 50.
Seedlings are available for collection from our nursery in Lusaka. For large orders or community groups in other provinces, contact us to discuss delivery arrangements. Distribution is coordinated by province.
We will contact you within 3 business days to confirm availability and arrange collection or delivery.
Tree data collected will be subject to your authorisation and applicable privacy laws. You control what is shared publicly. See our Tree Tracker page for full details.
Common Questions
We maintain a year-round nursery. Availability of specific species may vary by season. Submit your request and we will advise on current stock and expected collection dates.
We aim to respond within 3 business days. For large orders (above 500 seedlings) allow 2–4 weeks for us to prepare your batch.
Yes. Organisations requesting large quantities (500+) should contact us directly at info@divergent.org.zm to discuss partnership arrangements, cost-sharing, and logistics.
Participation in tree tracking is voluntary. We strongly encourage it — registered trees help us measure impact and improve the programme — but you are not obligated. Your data is controlled by you and protected by applicable privacy laws.
Please report mortality to us — it helps us improve. We may be able to provide replacement seedlings depending on the cause of loss and available stock. Community support and planting guidance is available on request.
