The Basics
A carbon credit represents the removal or reduction of one tonne of CO₂ from the atmosphere. When your organisation plants trees through Divergent Innovation Foundation, those trees absorb CO₂ as they grow — converting it into biomass stored in wood, roots, and soil.
Each verified tree you plant generates a measurable, traceable carbon offset that your organisation can use to:
Unlike purchasing carbon credits on a secondary market — where the money leaves Zambia and the provenance is often opaque — a Divergent partnership plants real trees in real communities, verified by GPS coordinates and photographic records you can share with your board and auditors.
Indigenous trees like Baobab store carbon for hundreds — even thousands — of years, far outlasting fast-growing monocultures.
Every tree is registered with GPS coordinates, planting date, species, and photo — giving you an auditable record.
Food security, shade, medicinal value, and income from indigenous fruit trees qualify as high-quality co-benefit credits.
Receive a formal CO₂ sequestration report annually, suitable for ESG disclosure and board presentation.
Why Zambia
Zambia loses an estimated 250,000–300,000 hectares of forest annually — one of the highest deforestation rates on the continent. This creates an enormous opportunity for verified, high-impact reforestation that earns internationally recognised carbon credits.
The country's diverse climate zones support a wide range of indigenous species — from the semi-arid Baobab heartlands of Southern Province to the miombo woodland corridors of the Copperbelt and Northern Province — giving corporate partners the ability to plant across multiple ecosystems and species types.
Zambia is also a signatory to the Paris Agreement, with a national target of restoring 8 million hectares of degraded land by 2030. Corporate partnerships with Divergent directly support this national commitment.
Our Carbon Species
Each species is selected for long-term carbon storage, ecological value, and community benefit — giving corporate partners a portfolio of verified, high-quality offsets.
Partnership Tiers
Structured to align with how Zambian and international corporations budget for ESG and CSR — from a first engagement to a full co-branded reforestation programme.
We tailor programmes to your species preferences, provinces, reporting standards (GHG Protocol, TCFD, GRI, CDP), and budget cycle. Whether you need quarterly carbon accounting or a one-off offset programme — we can build it.
